Truck Violence, the Montreal-based folk-punk and noisy post-hardcore band, have signed to the Flenser and introduced a brand new album. Their sophomore LP, The Weathervane Is My Physique, is out June 26. Try the lead single “New Jesus” and its Kirill Sommer-directed music video beneath.
Guitarist-banjoist Paul Lecours and singer-poet Karsyn Henderson shaped Truck Violence after shifting from the distant prairies of Alberta to the busy metropolis of Montreal as 17-year-olds. Upon arriving within the metropolis, they welcomed bassist Chris Clegg and drummer Thomas Hart into the fold, and launched their debut album, Violence, on Mothland in 2024 earlier than it bought a vinyl rerelease by means of Southern Lord. Their new album is billed as a product of that relocation and adjusting to main metropolis life.
In a prolonged assertion, Henderson describes “New Jesus” as a rant about “the blatant fascistic slide” in america and on TV. He continues: “It’s loosely in regards to the ABC—Trump settlement and the post-January sixth election fraud circumstances. The dearth of any broader ethical compulsions past centralizing energy on the political proper has led to a tradition of post-truth, the place there isn’t a reward in accuracy until it results in an augmenting of 1’s political capital, which it not often does… There’s stunning apathy amongst younger individuals with reference to this slide, who imagine the acquisition of energy and the following lording over that happens, is merely nature, primarily; what’s going to occur, will occur. With these strains of considering, you discover extra individuals sympathetic to this mode, whether it is each pure and inevitable, why not acclimate and reap the rewards.”
