Nathalie Charrié is a ceramic sculptor based mostly in Toulouse. She studied at isdaT, lives and works in Toulouse, and builds her follow round animal and flowers, drawing on sources that vary from entomology and medieval bestiaries to engraving and etymology.
Her sculptures are stuffed with hybrid creatures — half animal, half vegetal, generally surprisingly human of their emotional cost. She works with stoneware, faience, raku, raku nu, and smoke firing, usually combining ceramic with glass, wooden, metallic, and natural supplies equivalent to shells or bugs. The work carries each delicacy and pressure: each bit is rigorously shaped, then subjected to the violence of firing, so which means, materials, and transformation keep tightly certain collectively.
