Catalan composer and experimental musician Marina Herlop is readying a brand new album, Dja Dja. Herlop will self-release her follow-up to 2023’s Nekkuja on October 9. Under, hearken to a brand new track from the document, “Jaque.”
In response to press supplies, Dja Dja was impressed by the “the hero’s journey,” the narrative framework popularized by Joseph Campbell in his e book The Hero With a Thousand Faces. Herlop recorded many of the album—which she described as “like a large sudoku”—at her house, and later traveled to Bali to document native musicians enjoying gamelan.
