Work by artist Joshua Stolen. Stolen is a Denver-based, although quickly to be Chicago-based, painter who grew up in a city not removed from the College of Wisconsin-Madison the place he earned his BFA. For Stolen, life in a small city is made up of sure characters and rituals. His work is an effort to memorialize these imprints of his lived expertise and reconcile them along with his private mythology:
“My work is an try to solidify what stays after the distillation, and inevitable fictionalization, of reminiscence. I’m within the sluggish, natural manner that we recontextualize the issues that make us.”
