SPECIAL EDITION | THE MALIBU HOUSE
CASA ZUMA IS HOME
Letter from Camille
Each morning, Adam and I begin the day with a stroll on the seaside. Once we get dwelling, we open the doorways, make espresso, and settle into the rhythms of our day. These moments really feel easy, however they’re the life we imagined six years in the past after we first found the property that might develop into Casa Zuma.
On the time, it was an overgrown acre above Zuma Seashore with a light Fifties bungalow and a number of work forward. Nonetheless, one thing about it felt immediately acquainted—the ocean filling the horizon, jasmine perfuming the drive, and palms swaying overhead. We spent our first summer season there dwelling within the bungalow simply because it was, strolling to the seaside, selecting dinner on the farmstand, and gathering across the firepit at sundown. We found a simplicity we didn’t know we’d been craving.
That feeling grew to become our imaginative and prescient for Casa Zuma: respiration house, each actually and figuratively. A detailed reference to the outside, doorways that might keep open all day, and loads of room for bringing folks collectively.
Casa Zuma additionally grew to become our artistic muse. The primary object I designed for the home was a ceramic mug for our gradual mornings. It grew to become the Ritual Mug and, ultimately, the start of the Casa Zuma model. As the home developed, I continued creating and gathering items impressed by life right here.
The renovation took six years. Our plans modified, our youngsters grew, and our household moved by total chapters of life. Now that we’re lastly dwelling, I can see that Casa Zuma was by no means only a renovation challenge. It was a approach of asking ourselves how we needed our days to really feel—after which creating a house and a life across the reply.
This Sourcebook is my approach of opening the doorways and sharing it with you. I’ll take you thru Casa Zuma room by room, revealing the selections, supplies, makers, and sources that introduced it to life. My hope is that you simply’ll discover concepts to hold into your individual dwelling—to not recreate this one, however to make extra room for the folks, rituals, and moments that make you’re feeling most alive.
Welcome to Casa Zuma.
