For those who want somebody to adapt an all-American bestseller involving aquatic wildlife, Olivia Newman is the film-maker for you. Following 2022’s The place the Crawdads Sing, Newman has co-written and directed Remarkably Brilliant Creatures, a drama based mostly on Shelby Van Pelt’s octopus-centric novel. Sally Discipline stars as Tova, a grieving aquarium cleaner, alongside Lewis Pullman as Cameron, a troubled younger man who involves work together with her. The movie’s narrator is Marcellus, an enormous Pacific octopus who observes the 2 new associates. And, in a stroke of casting genius, Marcellus is voiced by Alfred Molina, who performed Physician Octopus in two Spider-Man movies. Do not count on any superheroics, although. “Remarkably Brilliant Creatures is a narrative of affection and grief,” Van Pelt stated on Netflix’s official website. “These are two feelings that everybody who walks this planet feels sooner or later, so the themes are very broadly resonant.”
