A sequence embracing the landscapes of childhood and a special tempo of life by photographer Michael Francalanci. Francalanci lives between Berlin and Amsterdam. His work typically explores themes of reminiscence, mixing the surreal with the intimate. In “Soiled Toes,” Francalanci returns to Tuscany and the encompassing countryside—a spot of his childhood. Accompanied by his younger son, Francalanci displays on resurfaced recollections, observing gestures and habits shared throughout generations. All the pictures have been shot solely on analog medium format 6×7 to embrace a slower method of working:
“At a time when a lot of life unfolds behind screens, Soiled Toes imagines a special tempo—an ode to slowness that brings us again to nature, to presence, and to the easy pleasure of being outdoors. Soiled Toes is each a return to at least one’s origins and the start of a brand new journey: fatherhood. Created with the hope of evoking emotions reasonably than telling a narrative, I invite you to sense—reasonably than interpret—the passing of a shared summer season.”
