In 2011, Ozzy Osbourne’s career-reviving solo debut Blizzard Of Ozz obtained a belated Thirtieth-anniversary re-release. The album was packaged with the Prince Of Darkness’ 1981 effort, Diary Of A Madman, for a reissue for the ages, stuffed to the gills with dwell footage, behind-the-scenes previews and remastered materials.
One of many bundle’s most doubtlessly intriguing options was left on a slicing room flooring, nonetheless: a quick speech from Motörhead chief Lemmy Kilmister giving his ideas on Blizzard… and the touring round it.
Within the footage, fortunately preserved and later uploaded to YouTube, Lemmy reveals that he “by no means actually received into Black Sabbath”, the band that Ozzy was fired from in 1979 and returned to in 1998. But, he calls Blizzard… a “nice” album, and goes on to share tales from the time Motörhead supported Ozzy’s solo band on a 1981 North American tour.
“We received to see him play not less than half of [Blizzard…] each night time,” Lemmy says. “It was actually good. Actually good tour.”
He then talks about Randy Rhoads, Ozzy’s first solo guitarist, who handed away aged solely 25 in a 1982 aircraft crash.
“Randy Rhoads, though being an exquisite guitar participant, couldn’t play Asteroids for shit,” Lemmy jokes, referring to the 1979 arcade sport. “I beat him proper throughout this nation, from East Coast to West and again.”
Getting a bit extra critical, Lemmy continues: “Randy was, like, simply good. After all, he received higher after he died, as a result of all people does. However I liked Randy. He took dangers; he wasn’t scared. He knew his instrument. He’d simply go for it – that’s what I favored about him. Ozzy used to throw him round, throw him up on his shoulders whereas he was enjoying, and he by no means missed a notice!”
After touring collectively in 1981, Lemmy and Ozzy’s paths would cross a couple of occasions, most notably when the Motörhead man wrote some songs for the Double-O’s 1991 album No Extra Tears and his band supported him on the follow-up 1992 tour, No Extra Excursions. Lemmy sadly died in December 2015, and Ozzy handed final month on the age of 76.
Each males have obtained monuments of their hometowns: a statue of Lemmy was lately erected in Burslem, Stoke-On-Trent, and there’s a Black Sabbath Bench in central Birmingham, that includes the faces of Ozzy and Sabbath’s different founding members. Ozzy’s funeral procession handed the bench on the best way to a personal ceremony on July 30.
