Hashimoto Up to date is happy to current Cognitive Dissonance, a solo exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist Seonna Hong. In her newest solo exhibition, the artist’s deeply introspective work capabilities as each visible journal and emotional terrain, tracing the patterns of up to date life by abstraction, panorama, and gesture.
Viewing portray as a map of her inside expertise, the artist embeds emotion into the landscapes themselves inside the striations of the sky, jagged rock and shifting atmospheres. Figures seem as anchors or witnesses: typically they characterize the artist, typically nobody explicit particular person in any respect. The works in Cognitive Dissonance emerge from a interval of heightened cognitive and emotional pressure formed by political unrest within the U.S., world battle, environmental disaster, and the persistence of connection, tenderness, and each day ritual.
The exhibition strikes between capturing a way of urgency and restraint. Hong throws, scrapes, and pushes paint in moments of overwhelm, then slows into skinny, delicate “quilted” washes utilized with meditative precision. The artist attracts a parallel to bojagi, the Korean textile custom that items fragments into purposeful abstraction, an act of each rupture and restore. Scale operates as one other emotional register: massive works seize bodily depth, whereas smaller work return to the immediacy of her early research on ironmongery store paint chips.
Cognitive Dissonance holds the contradictions of our current day second: chaos and quiet, grief and compassion, the spectacular and the mundane. It’s a document of making an attempt to stay
