Seaside restaurant El Silencio Ibiza has opened the Urusai Sundown Bar, the island’s “first true vinyl-listening audiophile expertise” devoted to vinyl-only DJ units and deep listening.
The bar is impressed by the Japanese jazz kissa custom (cafes that concentrate on taking part in recorded jazz music by means of high-quality audio techniques), and is described as “a soulful fusion of vinyl tradition, Japanese ritual, and Balearic legacy”.
The bar is positioned on the western coast of Cala Molí, and is open day by day from 6pm (or golden hour, some would possibly say) and into the evening, throughout which you’ll be able to hear genres together with a mixture of Western and Japanese Jazz, Soul, Funk, Disco, Afro-Boogie, and Balearic Disco.
The programming is curated by Jaime Fiorito, son of Balearic pioneer DJ Alfredo, and blends uncommon and reissued vinyl from the Seventies by means of to the 2000s, that includes information by Alice Coltrane, Patrick Cowley, Susana Estrada, Levels of Freedom, Nu Guinea, and extra.
The area has been designed by Kulapat Yantrasast of WHY Structure, and in true kissa fashion, Urusai has a custom-built sound system that delivers “studio-grade readability”. At its core is a hybrid analogue-digital mixer, accomplished by handcrafted coaxial audio system created from Baltic birch plywood, with every unit individually amplified for steadiness and tonal depth.
“Urusai isn’t a membership or a lounge, it’s a group within the making,” reads a press launch. “It recollects the spirit of Ibiza within the ‘70s and ‘80s, when aristocrats danced beside farmers, and music discovery took priority over style.
“Offering a spot for vinyl heads, creatives, collectors, and people who crave one thing extra intimate and intentional. Urusai is a spot the place folks from all walks of life can come collectively, united by a deep love for sound, sunsets, and soulful connection.”
