Metallica, by no means a band to shy from spectacle, made a reliably mammoth debut on the Las Vegas Sphere final evening (October 1). Working as a four-piece unit in entrance of the venue’s large curved display, they opened with Grasp of Puppets traditional “Battery” to launch an 18-song set spanning from their 1983 thrash-metal debut Kill Em All to their most up-to-date album, 2023’s 72 Seasons. Graphics included towering tombstones, elliptical stained-glass home windows, and a multidimensional depiction of the Lovecraftian Chthulu in the course of the Trip the Lightning observe “The Name of Ktulu.” Watch footage of that and extra, and take a look at the setlist, under.
In distinction to the playful neon exterior, the huge display displayed visuals of “nooses, crosses, flooded landscapes, ruined buildings and different imagery that appeared pulled from a succession of horror films,” San Francisco Chronicle notes in a overview. James Hetfield stated from the stage, “For contemporary expertise and outdated guys enjoying loud music, I’ve to say that is fairly superior.”
Final evening’s present was the primary of 24 performances scheduled on the 20,000-capacity venue via March 2027. The exhibits, happening each Thursday and Saturday, are billed as “No Repeat Weekends,” with no overlap between every week’s setlists.
