When our pal Ryan Leas coated Pop Montréal for us a couple of years again, he introduced again phrase of La Sécurité, who he described as a brooding and shadowy art-punk band with a touch of Devo’s playfulness. That francophone combo is again as we speak with Bingo!, their second LP, and I did not need to head into the weekend with out recommending it.
On Bingo!, I hear a few of that shadowy high quality Ryan was describing, which manifests in flashes of no wave and shoegaze and the violent rumble of Félix Bélisle’s bass. However largely this factor seems like a blast. Some songs, like “Deny,” flash me again to Le Tigre and the dance-punk period on the whole. Others, like “Detour,” conjure the art-damaged splendor of late ’70s and early ’80s Britain. And in the event you’re into teams like Telehealth and Vessel who deliver a wholesome dose of B-52s vitality to their post-punk occasion rock, you will most likely need to get all the way down to this.
Pay attention under.
Bingo! is out now through Mothland/Bella Union.
