Kelela is releasing her third album this summer time. Out July 10, New Avatar pays homage to the singer-songwriter’s early days writing music within the D.C. indie scene, earlier than she made a pivot to electronic-tinged R&B. The complete-length blends shoegaze, grunge, R&B, and digital music, and options collaborations with PinkPantheress, A. Okay. Paul, and Fousheé. To mark the event, the New York-based artist has launched a Mischa Notcutt-directed music video filled with pictures of the town panorama for the album single “Linknb.” Watch it under.
“This album finds solace in confronting,” Kelela says in a press release. “I don’t need the music to be a distraction from what’s actually occurring on the earth; I would like it to make sense on this loopy second whereas serving to folks get in contact with the wonder and pleasure they’re additionally experiencing.” The announcement confirms fan hypothesis of a brand new venture, after the singer wiped her Instagram in March. In April, she previewed what she known as her “new period” at an intimate SoHo screening of the album’s first single, “Thought 1.”
Kelela’s final album, Raven, was launched in 2023. That rave-inspired venture was adopted up with a remix album that includes digital artists akin to LSDXOXO, Tygapaw, and Shygirl.
