Utilizing GarageBand as her most important instrument, PinkPantheress – actual title Victoria Beverley Walker – would rip audio, chop it up, and layer drum loops excessive: “I’d take a monitor, and I’d principally take it after which velocity it up, gradual it down. After which I’d add issues to an already present little bit of audio,” she explains. “This was what it was in the beginning.”
“[Then] as time went on, I began to realize a bit extra confidence in what I may do, and I additionally began to collaborate with different individuals,” says the 25-year-old.
Regardless of now working with producers like Mura Masa and Oscar Scheller, PinkPantheress admits she was initially not sure about entering into a standard studio surroundings.

Like, I did all this myself – you need me to do a session now?’ I used to be not offended, however I used to be like, I don’t wish to break this cycle that I’m in of creating music my means. And I used to be all frightened and like, I’m gonna hate it. I didn’t know what a session was. I simply had no thought.”
In accordance with Walker, that reluctance got here from the truth that she considered herself as a “producer first, after which vocalist final, or like, second, or no matter. So for me, it was like, ‘Properly, what is that this for?”
That stated, that perspective shifted shortly as soon as she started working with others. Watching collaborators in motion grew to become a turning level, notably when she encountered new instruments and workflows.
“I’d by no means used a MIDI controller in my life like that,” she says. “Earlier than then I used to be simply utilizing my keyboard on my laptop computer, and I assumed that was the one strategy to do it. Then I watched them do it. And I used to be like, ‘Oh, I can simply purchase a keyboard and do it myself.’”
Nowadays, her artistic course of is a mixture of working solo and teaming up with others. It must be. I imply, there’s a cause it makes your life simpler, and I wouldn’t have these songs with out these individuals.”
