Later this week, the UK powerhouse Anna Calvi will launch Is This All There Is?, a brand new EP of duets. We have already heard her cowl Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s “I See A Darkness” with Fragrance Genius, and we have posted her Iggy Pop collab “God’s Lonely Man.” There is a music with Laurie Anderson on there, too. In the present day, Calvi shares the brand new EP’s title observe, on which she joins forces with the Nationwide chief Matt Berninger.
We already knew that Matt Berninger loves a duet. Only recently, he obtained along with Rosanne Money to cowl the Velvet Underground’s “Who Loves The Solar”; their model is the theme for the brand new Hulu present Sunny Nights. “Is This All Their Is?” is an enormous, evocative synth-rock howler, and I like the way it makes use of the distinction between Calvi and Berninger’s voices. Calvi initially wrote the music for the 2021 Joanna Hogg movie The Memento Half II, however the music hasn’t come out till now. Here is what Calvi says about it:
This music is concerning the bravery it takes to hope. It’s the willingness to ask questions, even when realizing you’ll by no means get a definitive reply…The tone of Matt’s voice has such an epic, virtually historical high quality to it, which felt good for a music asking such an enormous existential query. We’re each looking for solutions — collectively and but by some means at all times aside, which I discover lovely. He brings an intimacy to the music that I couldn’t have imagined.
Test it out beneath.
The Is This All There Is? EP is out 3/20 on Domino.
