
Playful idiosyncrasies and bouts of caprice bubble up within the works of Yuko Shimizu. Depicting swimmers in classic bathing fits as they dive after large fish or diminutive figures wading via tulips twice as tall as they’re, the Brooklyn-based artist’s playful illustrations evoke folktales and goals, characterised by enigmatic narratives and decided motion.
Shimizu has beforehand taught at Quarantine, a singular residency off the coast of Menorca, Spain, the place artists are invited to disconnect from tech as a way to reconnect with the inventive course of and each other.
